Day One – Evening

My Bible opened to Isaiah 58 when I opened it to read this morning. First day of the fast. I can’t remember the last time my Bible opened to that Scripture. Pretty cool.

Scripture says that if you delight yourself in the Lord, He will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4) I’m sure this Scripture is true in its most obvious context; God sees what’s in your heart and gives it to you.

There is a second layer of truth to this Scripture as well. That is, God places certain desires in your heart. He actually gives you certain desires that He has for you when you delight in Him. That is, if there’s something the Lord would like you to do, it’s not unusual that the desire to do it will be found in your own heart and placed there by the Father.

There is a third layer of truth in this verse. That is, if there is something that God desires to do, He will place the desire for it in the hearts of His children. Thus, they will begin to ask Him in prayer to do the thing that is on His heart to do. He loves to answer prayer; Early on, He told Moses how to pray in front of Pharoah and the children of God so that He could answer Moses in particular ways. He still does it today, but with many, many more people!

All that to say, I believe God is about to move mightily upon our generation. I believe this because He placed the desire in our hearts for us to ask Him to do so. I believe He is eager to respond and surprise even the most faithful and optimistic of us. After all, He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly more than we could ever ask or imagine, (Eph 3:20-21). And He loves doing it!

May the Lord bless you with boldness to enter the Holy of Holies by the blood of Jesus Christ and may the Spirit of supplication lead you in your fast and lift you into the reality of Heaven as we watch the glory of the Lord in action together.
